Troops Repel Attacks on Borno Military Bases, Kill 10 Insurgents

Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, have repelled coordinated attacks by suspected ISWAP fighters on three Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) in Borno State, killing at least 10 insurgents and recovering several weapons.

The attacks occurred between the night of February 28 and the early hours of March 1, 2026, targeting FOBs in Mayanti, Gajigana, and Gajiram.

In a statement on Sunday, the Media Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, said troops successfully defended all positions and maintained full control of the bases.

According to the military, FOB Mayanti came under heavy attack, but troops held their ground while reinforcements overcame ambushes and improvised explosive device threats. Five insurgents were killed during the encounter, though one officer lost his life.

Weapons recovered included anti-aircraft guns, RPG tubes, rifles, bombs, and large quantities of ammunition.

Another attack on FOB Gajiram was repelled with support from Nigerian military air assets, leading to the recovery of weapons, an armed drone, and other military items. One wounded soldier was evacuated for medical treatment.

The military also confirmed that an attempted assault on FOB Gajigana was foiled, with two insurgents killed.

Uba said the failed attacks indicate increasing pressure on ISWAP strongholds and logistics networks, adding that offensive operations have been intensified across parts of Borno and Yobe states.
