ADC Group Decries Sunday’s Attack on Party Chieftains in Edo

An interest group within African Democratic Congress (ADC), ADC Grassroots Mobilisation for Change (AGMC), has decried Sunday’s attack on some party chieftains during a meeting in Edo.

The group, in a statement issued by Director of Communications, Mr Andrew Iguebor, on Tuesday in Abuja, said that the attack occurred at the residence of the party’s National Legal Officer, Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor, in Iruekpen.

Iguebor said that the incident, coming barely five days after an attack on Mr Peter Obi and other ADC chieftains in Benin, was a threat to the counyty’s democracy.

“We the ADC Grassroots Mobilisation for Change (AGMC) strongly condemn the incessant attacks on the party.

“Democracy can only thrive where opposition voices are respected, not silenced through intimidation and violence.

“The recent attack in Edo is a clear example of political intolerance taken too far.

”This shameful incident occurred in Osunbor’s compound, a party chieftain and the National Legal Officer of ADC, during a duly-convened party meeting,” he said.

Iguebor said that an attack on a peaceful gathering within a private residence was not only an attack on ADC but an attack on democracy itself.

“We call on security agencies to thoroughly investigate this attack and bring the perpetrators to justice; democracy must be protected at all costs,” he said.

Iguebor said that ADC would not be silenced in its mission of upholding the people’s will and ensuring good governance, come 2027.

According to him, no amount of threats, violence or political harassment will stop the party.
